• Associate Professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the School of Computer Science of the UPM (since 1983).
• Head of the Intelligent Systems Research Group, ISYS, of the Department of Artificial Intelligence of the Technical University of Madrid, Spain (since 1999).

• Vice-president (2001-07), of the Spanish society for the articial intelligence (AEPIA)
• Editor in chief (2000-06) of Journal "Inteligencia Artificial. Revista Iberoamericana de IA" edited by AEPIA. Member of the journal editorial board 1998-2001).
• Technical Contact person for UPM node in AgentLink "A Network  of Excellence for Agent-based Computing" (2000-06)
• Member of the executive board, (1997-07)(SEPLN) (Spanish association for Natural Language Processing) .
• Co-director of the ISYS-Hermeneumática, which shared rooms and resources with the Hermeneumatic Laboratory founded in 1996 by members of the ISYS Group and the Old Languages Research Group of the Linguistic Institute of CSIC (Spanish Research Centre). The head was Prof. J.L. Cunchillos. Last project finished at 2002.
