Selection and Admission of Students

Selection and admission of students

The Academic Board (Comisión Académica) of the MSc in Artificial Intelligence (CAMIA) is the board responsible for student admissions to the MSc in AI.

The number of places available for new students is 60.

The ETS de Ingenieros Informáticos has an Internal Quality Assurance System, which wasapproved by ANECA on 16th September 2009, where the Selection Process and Student Admission (PR/CL/1/007) can be found. Its objective is to define the selection and admission process of those students who will develop their studies in any of the first and second cycle degrees in the ETS de Ingenieros Informáticos.

With this, and according to the RD 1393/2007 and the Normativa de Acceso y Matriculación (Access Rules and Registration) approved by the UPM Governing Council on  June 24th , 2021, it is sought to establish a student selection and admission process that meets the requirement pointed out by ANECA under the framework of AUDIT.

Such a process (adapted to the specific circumstances of the MSc) specifies, with respect to what is mentioned above, the following elements:

  • CAMIA, for students whose degree is not in computer science but similar (Technical Engineering in Telecommunications, Superior Industrial Technical Engineering, Industrial Technical Engineering, BSc degree in Mathematics, Physics or any other speciality in computers) will establish the necessary bridge complements (up to 12 ECTS).

  • Because there is a limited supply of new places on this MSc, CAMIA, depending on the number of pre-enrolments made (if there is a much higher number of available places), will determine the need to conduct a student selection process for admission.

  • CAMIA will take into account during the selection process the reference elements, as well as the relative importance of each one of these headings: academic background, university of origin, curriculum vitae and/or academic record, and language skills; preference will be given to full-time students.

  • Once CAMIA review the documents submitted by the students, verification and observation of the established requirements as part of the selection process is undertaken.

  • With regard to the conditional students who did not submit all the correct information, they will have a period at their disposal to rectify the errors, after which the COA will prepare the final list with the admitted students.

Admission shall not imply, under any circumstances, any change to academic and, where appropriate, professional effects concerning the previous degree that the student holds.

CAMIA will notify the decision to the student via email. Once admitted to postgraduate studies and their proposal for registration has been reviewed, the students shall formalise their enrollment at the Secretariat of the School of Computer Science. During the registration process, the student shall produce the original version of the documents with the electronic preregistration attachment for validation. In the event that the degree provided by the student does not belong to a University in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), the student shall include the Hague Convention Apostille.
