Access Requirements and Recommended Profile

Access requirements and recommended profile

The degree's access methods and requirements have been established on the basis of the RD 1393/2007 and of the recommendations in the Consejo de Universidades (University Council) proposal agreement on the application for official degrees in the field of the Computer Engineering, and these are:

  • To hold an official Spanish university degree, or other similar degree issued by a higher education institution from the European Higher Education Area which entitles its holder to access an MSc-level degree in the country where it was issued.
  • Alternatively, to hold an official degree conforming to an education system outside of the European Higher Education Area, without the need for official recognition of these qualifications, upon verification by the University that such degrees provide an equivalent level of training to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees, and entitle its holders to access a postgraduate degree in the country where it was issued. In any case, access via this method does not imply recognition of the previous degrees the student may hold, nor its recognition for purposes other than the studies in the MSc.

The Comisión Académica (Academic Board) of the MSc in Artificial Intelligence (CAMIA) is responsible for the student admissions and assessing the merits required to access the course at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

The recommended admission profile for prospective Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence students is as follows. Students are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in informatics:

  • Bachelor of Science in Informatics Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Informatics
  • Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
  • Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Systems
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Technologies for the Information Society
  • or equivalent

Or similar:

  • Any bachelor’s degree within the field of engineering with a predominantly technological profile (biomedical engineering, telecommunications engineering, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degrees in mathematics or physics specializing in computation

Students holding degrees awarded before the deployment of the EHEA shall be required to hold the equivalent academic qualifications to the above degree programmes (licentiate, engineer or technical engineer).

So as to assure that all students with an admission profile that is not specialized in informatics are capable of achieving the learning outcomes established by EQANIE for the master’s level in informatics by the end of the programme, the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence Academic Board shall establish bridge courses equivalent to up to a maximum of 12 ECTS credits to be earned by taking subjects taught as part of the Bachelor of Science in Informatics Engineering at the UPM’s School of Computer Engineering.
