Student Support and Guidance Systems

A series of actions have been developed in order to offer support and orientation to new students once they are registered.

Welcome session

The aim of the welcome session is to provide a general overview of the activities and services that the UPM offer on a regular basis as a means for a better adaptation and integration of students to a new environment.

Presentation session of the research groups, lines of research and research projects developed by the aforementioned groups.

The Academic Commission of the PhD Programme in Artificial Intelligence (ACPDPAI) organises a presentation session every year, in which the research groups that are part of the Programme present their lines of research as well as the projects that they are developing and that endorse them.

Specific interventions for foreign students and students with special educational needs.

Specific interventions for foreign students are contemplated through the External Relations Office at the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineers in the UPM and through the Postgraduate Centre at the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineers. Among them, the most important ones are: an information and orientation system concerning the visa procedures, paperwork, etc.; information about customs, tourism, transport, accommodation, etc.; information about Spanish lessons; or information about scholarships for international students.

Specific interventions for students with special educational needs are also considered. Among them, the most important ones are: information about where the accessible points for handicapped are specified, human support systems for displacement and possibilities to adapt study material to the requirements of students with this type of need. In any case, appropriate support and counselling systems and services for the students with special educational needs are established to determine the need of possible adaptation of curricular models, alternative itineraries and studies. All of this is coordinated together with the Unidad de Atención a la Discapacidad (UAD),
